Herbert Birchell Remsen (25 February 192522 April 1999; aged 74) was an American actor who played a judge in "Pilot".

Life and career[]

Bert Remsen was born in Glen Cove, New York, on Long Island, to Helen (née Birchell) and Winfred Herbert Remsen.

He starred in numerous films directed by Robert Altman, including Brewster McCloud, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Thieves Like Us, California Split, Nashville, Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson, A Wedding, Code of Silence and Daddy's Dyin': Who's Got the Will?.

He also guest-starred in various television roles, including Jefferson Drum and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (starring Bill Bolender). He was a regular in the cast of the short-lived 1976 series Gibbsville.

Following an injury on the set of a television show, Remsen moved away from acting. After being hired as the casting director on Brewster McCloud, Altman talked him into taking a role in the film.

He was briefly married to actress Katherine MacGregor, who played Mrs. Oleson in Little House on the Prairie. He had a daughter, actress Kerry Remsen, with his second wife, Barbara Joyce Dodd.
